3 Symptoms of a REAL MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Today I want to tell you about some signs you need to watch out for in your dog. When you notice this combination of symptoms in your dog, it should always be treated as an always EMERGENCY situation. Here they are:
1. Pacing
2. Restlessness
3. Unproductive attempts to vomit
These behaviors are classic symptoms of a condition called "bloat" - a common and dangerous problem often seen in large breed, deep-chested dogs (but it can also occur in smaller dogs).
Here's what happens -when your dog experiences bloat. The stomach twists, causing the blood supply to the stomach to be compromised, which leads to tissue death. Toxins are released from the damaged tissues in your dog's body. This starts a sequence of events that, if left untreated, leads to death.
If you ever notice these symptoms in your dog, it is important that you call your local veterinarian or emergency clinic as soon as possible.
Bloat is a condition that is fairly common and often occurs during the evening or nighttime. I was at a local emergency clinic the other night and two dogs with bloat were there at the same time.
Bloat is also an expensive condition to treat.
